SCHOOLS

What is the South Carolina Health Occupations Outreach Learning System (SCHOOLS)?

The health care continuing education program is a collaboration between the Area Heath Education Consortium (AHEC) Program Office at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and four regional AHEC Centers statewide.

AHECs in South Carolina work with an affiliation of 20 rural hospitals using technology to provide educational programs for healthcare providers throughout the state, support research initiatives and facilitate the delivery of educational resources created by MUSC faculty to health care students participating in clinical rotations.

SCHOOLS uses the Palmetto State Providers Network (PSPN) and Polycom communications units to provide live distance learning opportunities to health professions students and clinicians located in communities distant from MUSC.

SCHOOLS was initially funded by a federal Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) grant in 2010.
