ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP:

The Bennie M. Pettit Scholarship Program was established in 2017 in recognition of the long years of service provided Mrs. Pettit as the Director of Continuing Professional Development – Live Programming at Upstate AHEC. The program was established to promote a broad range of professional health occupations by awarding scholarships for attendance at institutions of higher learning.

“We believe that we must invest in our own future- the future of healthcare. We must ensure that there will always be well-trained doctors, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to work in our health centers.” – Bennie M. Pettit

To support this belief, every year the Bennie M. Pettit Scholarship Program provides scholarships to one or more students pursuing an education in the medical and allied health fields. Through these awards, many of our best future providers and caregivers are given a boost and encouraged to practice locally.

Funding for the Bennie M. Pettit Scholarship Program is provided through contributions approved by the Upstate AHEC board and private donations.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:

  • Currently enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university with interest in pursuing a career in healthcare
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • A former participant in the Health Careers Program at Upstate AHEC

Students awarded the scholarship are expected to adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, in addition to student conduct regulations at their college or university. Failure to remain a student in good standing can result in discontinuation of the scholarship.
