NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE CORPS
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) assists South Carolina and communities throughout the U.S. to access desperately needed primary health care in areas where health care providers are in short supply by awarding scholarships and loan repayment to clinicians in exchange for at least two years service in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
As NHSC Ambassadors, both Nancie Stover-Nicholson and Rahha Larijani:
- Advocate for primary care and service to medically underserved areas
- Counsel students regarding NHSC benefits and opportunities
- Mentor students and clinicians
Being an Ambassador for the NHSC is a natural extension of what HPS coordinators do for Upstate AHEC. The goals are the same: to recruit committed healthcare workers to practice in areas of the Upstate that are lacking good health resources.
