The Upstate AHEC Summer Institute is an enrichment program designed to provide high school students with experience and exposure to a health care environment and to expose students to academics at the college level.
The Summer Institute plays a major role in establishing a community bond by providing projects that promote the service aspect of healthcare.
Objectives
- To alleviate the under representation of minority health professionals in the Upstate AHEC region
- To support and encourage students to become future health professionals
- To expose students to academics at the college level through credited and non-credited courses
- To allow students to participate in community projects promoting the service aspect of healthcare
- To expose students to the roles and responsibilities of various health professionals
- To provide students with an opportunity to gain experience in a health care setting
Eligibility Requirements
- Maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
- Submit an academic recommendation and high school transcript
- Preference is given to members who have maintained contact with the SDDP Coordinator and actively participated in programs
