OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Describe invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Discuss the indications for use, care and maintenance of the pulmonary artery catheter as well as at least 3 complications.
  • Discuss set-up and troubleshooting basics for invasive monitoring.
  • Discuss appropriate waveforms for RA, RV, PCWP and normal values.
  • Discuss and define preload, afterload and contractility.
  • Interpret normal and abnormal hemodynamic profiles and appropriate response to findings.
