Objectives
1. Assess how health information technology and the evolution of health information exchange (HIE) in South Carolina will impact your practice.
2. Examine privacy and security issues as they relate to electronic health record exchange.
3. Articulate resources available in South Carolina to help you or your organization purchase, adopt and implement a certified electronic health record system.
4. Implement best practices, strategic steps and necessary components to achieve meaningful use of a certified electronic health record (EHR) system.
5. Utilize the Center for Information Technology Implementation Assistance in South Carolina (CITIA-SC) to find strategies and methods for effectively using HER technology.
6. Determine which incentive payment option in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 you or your organization may be eligible to receive.
7. Establish timelines for your organization in order to obtain the maximum Medicaid or Medicare Payments and avoid Medicare penalties.
8. Initiate HIE networking strategies with regional healthcare professionals and health information technology personnel.
