Purpose: Provide participants with basic overview of seating and mobility for clinical practice.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Experience the impact positioning has on functional ability.
- Discuss the critical components required for evaluating a client for proper seating and mobility.
- Match environment constraints and demands with proper seating and mobility products.
- Develop functional goals as they relate to seating and wheeled mobility.
- Match the client’s measurements with the proper seating and wheeled mobility components.
- Identify the different wheelchair components and how each impact patient functions.
- Discuss different types of manual/power mobility and the clinical uses of each type.
- Discuss the different properties of common materials used in seating and mobility products and the uses of each.
- Discuss basic Medicare rules for manual and power wheelchairs.

Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants
FEE
$100 for non members; No fee for AHEC members
CREDIT
Physical Therapists: This program has been approved for 9.6 contact hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board of Examiners for Physical Therapy.
Occupational Therapists: This program has been approved for 9.6 contact hours of continuing education for Occupational Therapists. SC AHEC has presumptive approval as a provider of continuing education for Occupational Therapists by the SC Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy.
Others: This program is approved for 0.8 CEUs (8 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
