Purpose: Participants will gain knowledge about early onset psych disorders including: ADD, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Depressive Disorders.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Explain how brain function affects psychiatric disorders.
- Describe the symptoms of at least two types of anxiety disorders
- Identify the types of attention deficit disorder and the correlating symptoms
- Identify at least 3 affective strategies for managing difficult behaviors
- Classify the type of anxiety disorder or impulse control disorder, given a case presentation
- Discuss in small groups, how this information could apply to children or families from the participants background.

Licensed Nurses, LPNs, Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists and Interested Others
Fee
$ 80 for non-members; No Fee for AHEC members
Credit
Counselors and Therapists: This program has been approved for 6 hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Psycho-Educational Specialists.
Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by The South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 6 contact hours.
Social Workers: This program has been approved for 6 clock hours of non-social work continuing education by Upstate AHEC, as part of the SC AHEC system, under its accreditation by the SC Board of Social Work Examiners.
Others: This program is approved for 0.6 CEUs (6.0 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
