Purpose: To provide a comprehensive review course based on the detailed CPEN content. This course is presented in a manner that is easy to understand. Earning the CPEN credential demonstrates extensive knowledge and experience related to pediatric emergency nursing care. This would also be an excellent review for any nurse interested in increasing his or her knowledge and comfort level in managing pediatric emergencies.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Describe and review principles of age specific assessment and triage.
- Apply principles of growth and development to pediatric patients in an emergency setting.
- Recognize signs and symptoms of common respiratory, cardiovascular, neurologic, medical, musculoskeletal, psychosocial, abdominal, genitourinary, environmental, toxicological, and ENT emergencies.
- Prioritize appropriate interventions for a pediatric patient with a respiratory, cardiovascular, neurologic, medical, musculoskeletal, psychosocial, abdominal, genitourinary, environmental, toxicologic, EENT, or trauma emergency.
- Recognize patterns of child maltreatment, abuse and neglect.
- Discuss legal and ethical issues pertaining to pediatric patients.
- Identify the knowledge and criteria needed to successfully pass the CPEN examination.
Target Audience
Licensed Registered Nurses preparing to take the Certified Pediatric Emergence Nurse (CPEN) Exam or desiring to review skills.
Fee
$ 150 for non-members; $50 for AHEC members
Credit
Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by The South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 12 contact hours.
Others: This program is approved for 1.2 CEUs (12.0 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
