Purpose: Provide participants with a basic knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology and techniques for identifying various dysrhythmias.

OBJECTIVE:

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the location and significance of the major anatomical structures of the heart
  • List the normal pathways of electrical conduction through the heart
  • Describe correct electrode positioning and skin preparation for Leads I, II, III, and MCL 1
  • Describe the significance of each waveform in the cardiac cycle
  • Calculate the PR interval, QRS complex, and QT interval and determine if in normal range
  • Calculate the atrial and ventricular rate on any strip
  • Recognize sinus, atrial, junctional, and ventricular dysrhythmias
  • Recognize AV and BBB heart blocks, and paced rhythms

Licensed Nurses and Respiratory Therapists

FEE

$80 for non members; No fee for AHEC members

CREDIT

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by The South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 6 contact hours.

Respiratory Therapists: This program has been approved for 6 hours of continuing education by South Carolina AHEC an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners

Others: This program is approved for 0.6 CEUs (6 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
