Purpose: To provide participants with the skills needed to perform 12 Lead EKG’s.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the functional Anatomy of the cardiovascular system.
  • Describe the electrode placement, polarity, PQRST configuration, and view of the heart for each of the 12 leads on an electrocardiogram.
  • Define vector while relating to a 12-lead EKG.
  • Critically analyze the PQRST complex on the EKG for abnormalities of interval length, depression, elevation, inversion, notching and intrinsicoid deflection.
  • List the steps for axis determination, its usefulness, and common causes of left and right axis deviation.
  • Describe the Hallmarks of LAH, LPH, RBBB, and LBBB.
  • Identify the ECG changes associated with myocardial ischemia, injury and infarction.

Licensed Nurses, Respiratory Therapist, Emergency Medical Technicians and Cardiovascular Technology Professionals

Fee

$ 90 for non-members; No Fee for AHEC members

Credit

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by The South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 7 contact hours.

Respiratory Therapists: This program has been approved for 7 hours of continuing education by South Carolina AHEC an approved provider of continuing education for respiratory care practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners

Emergency Medical Technicians: This program has been approved for 7.5 hours of continuing education by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control for all levels of certified emergency medical technicians in South Carolina.

Others: This program is approved for 0.7 CEUs (7.0 clock hours) by Upstate AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.
